Find answers to common questions
OstomyRN is a free mobile app designed to support adults living with an ostomy — whether you have a colostomy, ileostomy, or urostomy. The app helps you find qualified Wound, Ostomy and Continence (WOC) nurses near you, browse a library of educational content, read daily tips from experienced nurses, and chat with Roxy, our friendly AI assistant who can answer your ostomy care questions around the clock.
OstomyRN is completely manufacturer-neutral — we are not affiliated with any ostomy product company. Our only goal is to help you feel confident and supported in your ostomy journey.
OstomyRN uses passwordless sign-in, so there is no password to create or remember. You have two easy options:
Email sign-in: Enter your email address and we will send you a one-time code. Check your inbox (and your spam folder, just in case), type in the code, and you are all set.
Sign in with Apple: If you have an Apple device, you can tap "Sign in with Apple" for a quick, secure sign-in using your Apple ID.
That is it — no passwords to forget, no complicated setup.
Yes, OstomyRN is completely free to download from the App Store. All core features — the WOC Nurse Finder, the Education Library, Daily Nurses' Tips, and a generous number of free chat messages with Roxy — are included at no cost.
If you would like additional chat messages with Roxy beyond the free allotment, you can purchase a pack of 50 messages for just $0.99. This is entirely optional and does not affect your access to any other part of the app.
OstomyRN is currently available for iPhone on the iOS App Store. We recommend using an iPhone running iOS 16 or later for the best experience.
Support for Android devices is on our roadmap — stay tuned for updates.
Roxy is OstomyRN's built-in AI assistant — a friendly, knowledgeable companion available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Think of Roxy as a helpful guide who can answer your ostomy care questions at any time, whether it is the middle of the night or a holiday weekend.
Roxy draws on trusted ostomy care resources and always encourages you to consult with your healthcare provider for personalized medical decisions.
You can ask Roxy about a wide range of ostomy-related topics, including:
Roxy is compassionate and non-judgmental — no question is too small or too personal.
No. Roxy provides general educational information about ostomy care, but she is not a doctor or nurse and does not provide medical diagnoses, treatment plans, or prescriptions. Roxy will always encourage you to reach out to a qualified healthcare professional — such as a WOC nurse — for advice specific to your situation.
If you are experiencing a medical emergency, please call 911 or your local emergency number immediately.
Every OstomyRN account comes with free chat messages so you can get to know Roxy right away. If you run out and would like to keep chatting, you can purchase a pack of 50 additional messages for $0.99 directly inside the app.
To purchase, simply open a chat with Roxy and follow the on-screen prompt when your free messages are used up. The purchase is handled securely through the Apple App Store, and your new messages are available instantly.
The WOC Nurse Finder lets you search for Wound, Ostomy and Continence nurses in your area. You can search by ZIP code to find nurses nearby, or search by name if you already know who you are looking for. You can also filter results by insurance accepted to help narrow down the right fit.
When you find a nurse you would like to connect with, the app links you directly to their provider system — OstomyRN does not store or transmit any of your health information.
No. OstomyRN does not collect, store, or share any personal health information. When you connect with a WOC nurse through the app, you are linked directly to that provider's own system. Any information you choose to share with your nurse happens through their platform, not ours.
Your privacy is a core principle of OstomyRN — you can read more in our Privacy Policy.
Yes. After searching by ZIP code or name, you can use the insurance filter to see only nurses who accept your insurance plan. This makes it easier to find a WOC nurse who is both nearby and compatible with your coverage.
If you do not see your insurance listed, we recommend contacting the nurse's office directly to confirm they can accommodate your plan.
OstomyRN is designed with a privacy-first approach. We collect only the minimum information needed to operate the app — anonymous usage data to improve the experience. Your email address is handled entirely by our authentication provider (Auth0) and is never stored on OstomyRN servers. We also collect basic purchase history linked only to anonymous identifiers to improve the experience. We do not collect or store any personally identifiable health information (PHI).
